If you are looking for a city break that both you and your children can enjoy together, look no further than Copenhagen. Denmark’s capital city offers a wealth of activities that can be enjoyed by the entire family.

Spend a day in Tivoli Gardens

Tivoli Gardens is an amusement park with a reputation that spreads worldwide. There are numerous activities that both you and your children will enjoy participating in, with rides ranging from rollercoasters to dragon boats, music that ranges from classical to rock and a stage that plays host to everything from cabaret to modern dance. At night, an illuminations show takes place at Tivoli Lake, with stunning lighting, sounds, lasers, fire, smoke and water keeping the whole family entertained.

Visit Bakken

Bakken is the world’s oldest amusement park, with a history going back over 425 years. There are a range of rides to suit children of all ages, as well as numerous games to play. Children will enjoy the clown show, which is performed three times a day, and the amusement park is also the home of Circus Revue and the Bakken’s Hvile music hall.

Bakken is located a little outside of the city, however it is worth the trip if you are travelling with children. Entry to the park is free, and you have the choice of paying for individual tickets or a wristband, should you want to go on rides. It can therefore work out as excellent value for money if you are travelling with in a group with a spread of ages.

Visit Tycho Brahe Planetarium

The Tycho Brahe Planetarium is a great place to take your children on a wet day. It boasts a 1,000 square metre dome-shaped screen, capable of showing more than 10,000 stars. Equiped with IMAX technology, you and your family can take voyages amongst the planets, or visit creatures deep under the sea. As well as the IMAX experience, there are also a number of astronomy and space flight displays that will be enjoyed by children with a fascination of space and astronomy.

Let your children burn some energy in the Tower Playground

Located in Fælledparken, one of Copenhagen’s many parks, even the smallest child has the chance to feel big. Winning the 2012 Danish Design Award for the City’s Best Children’s Experience, the Tower Playground is based around five of Copenhagen’s best known towers.

The Tower Playground gives children the chance to run around and play, learn about the history of some of Copenhagen’s most famous buildings, and play with some of the latest technology. With ramps, slides and rope bridges, there are plenty of opportunities for children to burn some energy after a long flight.

Take the family to Copenhagen Zoo

Copenhagen Zoo is home to a variety of animals ranging from penguins, polar bears and reindeer through to chimpanzees, lions and giraffes. Kids will love the Children’s Zoo, which is home to animals such as cows, rabbits and llamas. Children have the opportunity to ride ponies, or get up close to snakes and rabbits.

Relax in the King’s Garden

The King’s Garden is a great place to sit back and enjoy some relaxing time together as a family. It is Copenhagen’s oldest and visited park, and with good reason; there are plenty of open areas for children to run around in, or for the family to sit and have a picnic. There is playground for your children to enjoy, as well as cafes and restaurants if you get hungry or thirsty. In the summer months, there is a puppet show that plays most afternoons to keep your children further entertained.
Whatever your children love to do, there is bound to be something to keep them entertained when visiting Copenhagen. With plenty of parks and playgrounds for children who are full of energy, through to rollercoasters for the older children, the city has a lot to offer everyone.
