Sunny Beach Vacations In Mexico

If you enjoy vacations with warm sun, lots of ocean activities and friendly people, then Mexico is the perfect destination. Mexico has some of the world’s best beach resorts, making it a favorite destination for tourists from the United States and around the world. While some of Mexico’s resorts are not as well-known as those on Caribbean islands, they are every bit as good – and in some cases better. Not only that, but Mexico has a fascinating history, both before the arrival of the Spanish and afterwards.

If you are looking for somewhere that is relaxed and out of the way, then head down to the south end of the Baja Peninsula, located between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. This area is known as Baja California Sur and is a glorious mix of rugged inland landscapes and stunning beaches along the coasts. The major resort towns in the area are Cabo San Lucas andSan José del Cabo – these are actually neighboring towns and together are referred to as Los Cabos. The beaches in this area are incredibly inviting, and offer lots of aquatic activities such as scuba diving. The seas off the coast are also home to diverse marine life and are a favorite spot for deep sea fishing.

If you head over the other side of Mexico to the Caribbean coast, you will find a number of world-class beach resorts, as well as some of Mexico’s best-known pre-Columbian sites. Perhaps the best-known of the beach resorts in this area is Cancun, situated on the Yucatán Peninsula. Again, the beaches and water sports are spectacular, but the real secret of Cancun lies just a little offshore – the Belize barrier reef. This is the second largest reef system in the worldand is a favorite destination for snorkelers and scuba divers. The reef is home to many species of fish and coral, as well as other marine life such as manatees, dolphins and sea turtles. In fact, the reef stretches south from Cancun down the 80 mile stretch of coastline known as the Riviera Maya, and then continues on beyond that. If you are staying in Cancun, then consider booking into one of the resorts run by Royal Holiday there – you can find out more about these on Sunny Beach Vacations in Mexico

The reason that the area is called the Riviera Maya is that the Mayans lived there for thousands of years prior to the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, and many of the most spectacular Mayan sites are still found there today. These include the Mayan cities of Chichen Itza and Coba, as well as the walled coastal town of Tulum. These sites draw millions of visitors each year to see the temples, stepped pyramids and ball courts that still exist. The island of Cozumel, located off the Yucatán coast, was also a major center of Mayan civilization starting around 100 A.D. and was occupied by the Olmecs prior to that.(image by Image source).
